Become a qualified healthcare interpreter (HCI)

Vendors, hospitals, and medical groups can help provide high-quality language-access services for our members. State law requires providers who accept public funds to ensure access to either qualified or certified healthcare interpreter services.

Program details

Provides individualized support to:

  • Gather required documentation
  • Coordinate language proficiency testing
  • Complete 64 hours of OHA-approved training
  • Prepare and submit the OHA application
  • Receive full refund after submitting application

Training topics include:

  • National Standards of Practice
  • National Code of Ethics
  • Introductory modes and skills
  • Medical Terminology
  • Anatomy & Physiology

Once you've completed the training, our team will guide you through completing and submitting your application to become a qualified healthcare interpreter with the state of Oregon.

  2. Fill out an online application
  3. Wait while our team reviews your qualifications
  4. Meet with our program coordinator for your next steps

Upcoming schedule

Sessions are offered online Mondays and Tuesdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Pacific time. Participants must attend the entire 64-hour training with no exceptions.

Program cost and reimbursement

This program is open to vendors and healthcare organizations that have a current contract with PacificSource.

The cost per participant is $500.00 and is reimbursed in full after the following:

  1. Successfully completing the course
  2. Submitting a qualified healthcare interpreter application to OHA
